forget about spending $ on other stupid systems. This is the future of death in the air. This would surely put fear in any terrorist heart. Shit, scares the fuck out of me to be on the receiving end of all that death !!! Run Taliban

Grew up with a guy here in the PNW who went ROTC, then on into the AF, was stationed down in LA. with the squadron that was all over the news in the first Gulf War. He missed that round as he was sent out to the southwest to train others. Just prior to the first Gulf War, he paid a visit to Paine Field, for an airshow, he was in his commanders aircraft(if I remember correctly) and was part of the static show. Mild mannered guy, salt of the earth, military family. A fellow aviator, from a differnt branch of the service(again if I am correct) passed by, they saluted, shook hands, and spoke of upcoming events, trainning. I asked Dale, " Hey with all of the shit going on in the world, are at all concerned or nervous ?" His reply was... " Hell no, when I've got 6 million dollars worth of gear between my legs, I want to show you and Uncle Sam that I know how to use it!" The man was trained. He missed the first run, and the second time around, Turkey held them up. Now he's in Alaska. What a machine ! I also heard recently that since there is overlap in the services, when the AF talked about doing away with the A-10s, and the Army or the Marines were eager to take over, the AF thought twice.

These guys rock. I got to see them work at an air show in Oklahoma City about 10 years ago.
You bet there have been reports of this bas ass landing safely with most of one engine missing, and part of a wing blown off. This is the baddest plane in the US arsonal for close ground support. Does its job so well that the USAF re-commissioned it after moth balling it cause it does its job so well.

these things are awesome weapons...but as a plane not that great. They are very susceptible to cross winds on take off and landing because of those two huge tale fins.
-Just flew one 6 hours ago... No cross winds. Crabbing on the landing is the best part of the whole damn flight.

Not bad for a plane that was supposed to be mothballed before the gulf war.

I believe the US just extended it's service life until 2025...
... might be 2050, but I can't remember.

I just hope whatever we replace them with is better than these amazing birds.
