its funny how they say guns will make a home safer....safer for who?? the homeowner? or the criminal robbing your house? sounds like the criminal is protected and makes the homeowner the unarmed victim....better to be prepared and have a gun and not need a gun rather than to need a gun and not have one...

The second amendment is the most important because it is the one right that ensures you can protect all your other rights... period.
I won’t even bother to address the obvious citizen-vs-citizen self defense issues, it secures your rights with our government.
People who say that you can no longer protect yourself from such a strong and well-armed government don’t get the point. If the government were to try something catastrophically tyrannical, there will be much higher consequences with 250 million guns out there in the citizen’s hands than if there were zero. Guerilla war tactics with inferior arms can disrupt large armies. It is the last ultimate deterrent. The thing that all dictators fear most: A well-armed population.
-FROM MY COLD DEAD HANDS

Well, when I had a false alarm when my house alarm went off while I was at work, my alarm company told me that police had been dispatched... I got a call 30 minutes later when the police entered my property... Police are there to make simple traffic stops to make their county or state profit....

To all those who are saying that guns don't prevent murders, you are absolutely correct: People can still kill without guns, and you're not really going to stop anyone from doing so.

HOWEVER, you can (and really must) admit that firearms must make it a damn sight lot easier for people to kill. And it's not just that you could seriously hurt or kill someone with something else either, because guns are very good at what people call 'Killing Sprees'. Much better than a knife, with one of those, one person at a time, two if you're lucky. With a gun (any gun, I might add, bar some single shot rifles and older weapons), you can kill as many people as times you want to pull the trigger, less with an automatic weapon.

Still don't believe me? How about some words that, honestly, I think will make most Americans hate me (words that will be forever be, for some, a sore point); Columbine, Virginia Tech. I'd like to see the guy who killed all those students last year use something other than a firearm to kill 32 students and teachers.

I'm going to cite something that happened a bit closer to home (my home, Australia, that is); The 1996 Port-Arthur Massacre. The guy went on a killing spree with a bunch of semi- and full-automatic weapons, and he killed 35 people, he's doing life without parole until he dies. This is considered probably the worst massacre in the modern history of Australia (and I'm taking twentieth century here - aboriginal and settler massacres not included). It resulted in a complete ban on automatic weapons, and severe limitation of the sale of guns in general in Australia. Now shootings don't happen as often, and when they do, they're big news. They're not as easily dismissed as in other countries (and I'm not just talking about the US, there are plenty of others).

When these things are happening on a regular basis (columbine and virginia tech were less than ten years apart), perhaps something needs to be done.

Now, I'm not saying that the US should ban guns completely, because obviously they hold a special place in the hearts of most US citizens, and obviously it's protected by your constitution. And I also have come to understand that the US has already banned certain weapons such as machine guns and other types of assault weapons (if anybody has a more in-depth knowledge of these laws, I'd love to hear from you, because my own is somewhat lacking).

I've got to tell you now, I love guns, or, more accurately, the idea of guns, I've only really fired .22s and air rifles, and that's out in the bush where there's only trees to shoot.

What I would love to see is, not complete gun control, which is unconstitutional, but pushing gun control laws to the point that they are still protected by the constitution, but still less-than-easy to obtain. (I might take this moment to point out that the US constitution was written over two hundred years ago, when guns were either muzzle loading single-shots, or really, really big and heavy, perhaps a review of that amendment should be considered, now that we have guns that can empty a cartrige of ten or more bullets in a matter of seconds, and can be carried around without barely leaving a bulge in peoples jackets.)

So yeah, those are my views, as you can see, I'm not siding with these 'bullshit' guys, but I'm pretty sure most of my arguements are valid, and not a bunch of scare tactics that they seem to think the pro-gun control advocates are in this video.

(Oh, and is it just me, or was that lady with the curly hair really insane? Just watch her eyes when she's talking, not to mention the words coming out of her mouth.)

No, this is what would happen. A machine shop owner would think "Hey cause guns are illegal, it is very valuable to a crimanal. So i'll make one and sell it for 100,000's dollars". But you are right there would be no change in murder rate. And imaggine if you tryed to take all the guns away from people, gang members would give one over and hide the other.

It's to bad children are killed by guns but if the chidren were taught and showen what guns can do, they would have respect for them. Hell there are countrys where they are training army's of children to use wepons every day. It would be the shit's to get whipped by a bunch of 10 yr olds that know what there doing !! If kid see's what a gun can do to a deer' it makes them think twice about screwing around with one. At least mine do. Take your kids hunting, and show them what it's all about.

>>>its not uneducated, its true that without guns there would be less murders, standard.

There would be less murders BY GUNS, but there would not be less murders, or are you saying that man did not commit murder before guns were invented? Surely you heard about the fIRST murder, when Caine killed his brother Abel? It is in the BIBLE. Men and women have been committing murder since then, and LONG before guns were invented.

>> in the u.k guns are illegal and we have little to no murders from guns each year.

I noticed you didn't say "Little to no murders, PERIOD" So, you are still killing each other, only you're not using guns.

>>the point is if you didnt allow people to own guns then the criminals wouldnt have them either...

That statement reaches a level of IGNORANCE that is unworthy of a response.

>>thats how it is over here, if you deperately want a gun in this country you could get your hands on it, but there arent gun crimes every day and when there are incidents of a shooting (even where no one was hurt) then its all over the news all over te country.

You have a very SMALL country.

>>i make it seem like im anti_gun protestor etc, i actually really like guns, but the simple fact of the matter is guns kill people because they are so available to you guys.

Guns don't kill people you FOOL! PEOPLE kill people. The availability of guns is not the problem. I suppose you believe that the genocide in these third-world countries would NOT occur if machetes were not so readily available! Pull your head out and stop fearing an inanimate object.

to the poster from across the pond:

"the point is if you didnt allow people to own guns then the criminals wouldnt have them either..."

this statement couldnt be more wrong. criminals are criminals for a reason, they break the law. a law banning the ownership of guns would just take them out of the hands of law abiding citizens.

Yeah it is too bad the UK has more violent crime than the US and gun crime actually went up %300 since they banned guns.
Not to mention the fact that knife related crimes are so bad now they are talking about banning them too. Not to mention air guns.
I guess pointy sticks are next. Dont want you guys to hurt yourselves with those...

Anyone who doesnt believe Americans should be free to won guns is a complete idiot and I mean that in the most sincere way. A gun is a tool: Nothing more, nothing less. You can use any tool any way you see fit. Taking away guns will do nothing to stop crime, on the contrary, it will increase crime because the criminals will be the only ones with guns at that point. Law abiding citizens do not commit gun crimes, PERIOD! They may have an accident, but there are over 30,000 people a year killed with cars. Should we ban them too?! A responsible gun owner does NOT keep a loaded gun in the house and does NOT keep a gun unlocked, period. When people talk about children shooting themselves or friends its very, very sad indeed. However, the parents are the ones responsible, not the gun. Gun haters are simply uneducated people with a heart felt position, not an educated one. As responsible gun owners we have a responsibility to educate people so more people can understand what owning a gun is about. Granted, there will always be people that are anti gun, but many people are simply uneducated.
