Yeah thats not just head space and timing on the .50 thats operator head space and timing.

I have a 1919, which uses a similar method of barrel mounting. Not having it tightened down is very dangerous, and very hard to do if you're paying attention. A 1919 won't even function with a loose barrel, but the M2 lacks the booster that would prevent that from happening.
